WHAT’S NEW IN 2024 • Mountain Maryland Trading Post

How would you describe Mountain Maryland Trading Post?
We are a general store and gift shop offering a wide range of products that are either designed and crafted in-house, curated by me and my wife, or sourced from local or regional artists, businesses, and crafters. We radiate hometown pride and try to bring that excitement out in our designs and offerings. We also have the largest selection of craft soda in town with over 40+ options and more being added all the time.
What inspired you to open this store?
We’ve existed in some capacity online for a few years now. Last year, we explored setting up as a vendor for a couple events and it really sparked our interest in pursuing a brick-and-mortar storefront. We are also very optimistic and excited for the revitalization efforts going on downtown. While many may have seen the construction as a deterrent for starting a business, we wanted to get in on the ground floor and try to help shape what the downtown area can be once construction is finished.
Do you offer any custom services?
Yes! At the beginning of this year, we purchased a couple of laser engraving machines. With these machines we’re able to offer an impossibly large number of customization options for personalized gifts, corporate swag, and custom work. We are up for any custom order at all and can hopefully create just what you want.
Do you have any new changes, services or products coming in 2024?
In 2024, we aim to fill out the store with new in-house product offerings, more Maryland-made products, and more collaborations with other businesses and other local artists for our Artist Series. We already have a few things lined up, and we’re hoping to lock in a few more projects going into summer.  We’re also looking to participate in more community outreach this year.
What about the “new” Baltimore Street are you looking forward to most?
I think what we’re looking forward to most is the “second chance” we believe Cumberland will receive from this revitalization effort. There is a lot of anticipation and excitement around this project from locals and tourists both, and I think this project will establish a strong foundation for the city to build on over the coming years. In addition to the transformation downtown, there are numerous other discussions and projects going on such as the River Park at Canal Place, the Cumberland Skatepark, and many improvements being made to the sections of the towpath and GAP that go through town.
How can we support you during this construction phase?
Please stop in when we’re open and check us out online when we’re not! Gift card purchases are also very helpful in helping us stay afloat until construction is complete.
