Things to Do Outside in Western Maryland and West Virginia in the Wintertime

1. Ski or Snowboard at Wisp Resort in McHenry, Maryland or travel to nearby Pennsylvania to visit Seven Springs Resort. Don’t ski or snowboard? Consider snow tubing! Both resorts have great tube parks! Located closer to West Virginia? Check out the newly revamped Timberline Resort in the Canaan Valley.

2. Snowmobile on the Meadow Mountain Trail in Savage River State Forest. If you have a snowmobile and are looking for a fun place to ride, the Northern section of the Meadow Mountain Trail is open for snowmobiling, weather permitting. This trail is a mostly gravel, former logging road. Make sure you check with the State Park/Forest to make sure you have the proper permits.

3. Cross-Country ski or Snowshoe at New Germany State Park. New Germany State Park is located near Grantsville, Maryland and has a small lake and scenic views. Don’t have the necessary equipment? No worries! New Germany State Park offers ski and snowshoe rentals.

4. Talk a snow walk! Downtown Cumberland, Frostburg and Keyser are magical in the snow.
