Types of Recreation Properties in Western Maryland and Neighboring West Virginia

Lakefront

If you are looking to be lakefront on a recreational lake, Deep Creek Lake and the Yough River Lake are two great options. Deep Creek Lake is located in McHenry and Swanton, MD and covers 3,900 +/- acres. It is quite developed and offers many amenities. If you are looking to boat and be right in the action, Deep Creek is the place for you. Yough River Lake is a much different atmosphere. It is located in Friendsville, MD and Addison, PA and covers 2,800 +/- acres. It is more rural and offers a more private, secluded lake experience.

Riverfront

There are several rivers here in Western Maryland. The Potomac River, Savage River, Cassleman River and Youghiogheny Rivers are popular spots for fishing, kayaking, etc. and offer plenty of shoreline surrounded by private property.

Hunting/ATV Land

If you are looking to hunt or just ride ATV’s, there are several places in Allegany, Garrett, Mineral and Hampshire Counties that offer the seclusion and large tracts of land. Some even back to the Green Ridge State Forest, Dan’s Mountain State Park, Garrett State Park, New Germany State Park and Savage River State Forest!

Creek Frontage

A cheaper option to river frontage is creek frontage. Patterson’s Creek in the Fort Ashby/Keyser area is a popular area for camps. There are also camps along Town Creek in Flintstone and Oldtown as well as Evitt’s Creek in Cumberland. It’s not navigable water but it’s great property to camp, fish, swim and kayak on.
